The Town of Mount Pleasant honors Miriam Shivery Moore Brown’s lifelong dedication to education and her community through the annual observance of Miriam Brown Memorial Day on October 12, recognizing her decades of service as an educator, principal, and civic leader. In addition, the site of the former Laing School, where Miriam served as principal from 1953 to 1969, has been transformed into the Miriam Brown Community Center. This center not only preserves her name but also continues her mission of community enrichment, providing educational, recreational, and cultural programs for children and families — reflecting the same values of learning, empowerment, and community service that defined her life.
